Patient during a slit-lamp examination – clinical MACULIGHT study on photobiomodulation for dry AMD

The MACULIGHT® Therapy

MACULIGHT therapy uses photobiomodulation—a gentle, non-invasive light therapy—to specifically stimulate retinal cells in dry AMD and protect vision. The treatment is conveniently performed at home, three times a week for just three minutes.

About the MACULIGHT Study

The MACULIGHT study is a multicenter, prospective, randomized, and controlled clinical trial with 120 patients, conducted at leading German eye clinics. It investigates the efficacy and safety of photobiomodulation as a home therapy for patients with early and intermediate dry age-related macular degeneration.

Federal Ministry for Research, Technology and Space Travel

Study Goals & Benefits

Primary Study Goal

Evaluation of the efficacy and safety of PBM on best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) and thus slowing the loss of vision with the medical device MACULIGHT®.

What are the potential benefits of MACULIGHT treatment for me?

Preservation of visual acuity
Slowing or even halting the progression of AMD
Less frequent progression to the late stage / wet AMD compared to the normal course of the disease
Avoidance of injections into the eye
Stabilization / positive change in vision in twilight
